چکیده

In the baboon (Papio species), the two nonallelic ‘y-genes produce “y-chains that differ at a minimum at residue 75. where isoleucine (“y-chain) or valine ( y) may be present. This situation obtains in baboons that are sometimes designated as Papio anubis, Papio hamadryas, and Papio papio. However, in Papio cynocephalus. although the “ychains are identical with those in the above mentioned types. the v chains have the substitutions ala -‘ gly at residue 9 and ala -‘ val at residue 23. The”y-chains of P. cynocephalus are called V yC to distinguish them from the v ,Achains of P. anubis. etc. A single cynocephalus animal has been found to have only normal 7-chains and LyC chains (that is, glycine in residue 9. valine in 23, and isoleucine in 75). When HbF is produced in response to stress with 5-azacytidine. P. anubis baboons respond with greater

Speciation in the baboon and its relation to gamma-chain heterogeneity and to the response to induction of HbF by 5-azacytidine.

In the baboon (Papio species), the two nonallelic gamma-genes produce gamma-chains that differ at a minimum at residue 75, where isoleucine (I gamma-chain) or valine (V gamma) may be present. This situation obtains in baboons that are sometimes designated as Papio anubis, Papio hamadryas, and Papio papio. However, in Papio cynocephalus, although the I gamma-chains are identical with those in th...

In vitro Induction of Fetal Hemoglobin in Erythroid Cells Derived from CD133 Cells by Transforming Growth Factor-b and Stem Cell Factor

Increased fetal hemoglobin (HbF) in b-globin gene disorders ameliorates the clinical symptoms of the underlying disease. 5-azacytidine, butyrate and hydroxyurea, have been shown to activate g-globin gene expression. It has also been found that hematopoietic growth factors can influence expression of g-globin in erythroid cultures and in animal models. This study was designed to evaluate the in ...

alpha-Amino-N-butyric acid stimulates fetal hemoglobin in the adult.

The effect of alpha-amino-N-butyric acid (alpha ABA) on fetal hemoglobin production in the adult was examined in vivo after being administered to normal and anemic baboons and in erythroid progenitor cell cultures. Infusion of alpha ABA for five days resulted in four- to fivefold increases in the level of F reticulocytes of normal or chronically anemic baboons. The induction of HbF by alpha ABA...

Study of the Effect of 5-Azacytidine as a DNA Demethylating Agent on Agronomic Traits, Androgenesis Induction via Anther Culture and DNA-Methyltransferase Gene Expression in Maize (Zea mays L.) Leaf Tissue

Optimization of in vitro methods for the production of maize double haploids plays an important role in the breeding programs of this plant. In this study, the effects of 5-azacytidine on agronomic traits, androgenesis induction efficiency and also, DNA methyltransferase gene expression (AF229183.1) in two growth stages of maize were investigated. This experiment was performed as factorial base...
